Update From Sochi

Team Scotland continue to impress after the sixth day of play at the World Junior Curling Championships in Sochi, Russia.

Hannah Fleming (above) and her team of Lauren Gray, Jennifer Dodds and Abi Brown are throwing down the gauntlet to all the other teams in Sochi as they look to defend their title from 2012.

Hannah and the girls beat Stephanie Risdal Nielsen’s Danes 7-3 today to become the first team of any gender to make the playoffs and, indeed, the 1v2 game. With just two games of group play left for Team Fleming, they remain undefeated.

Here are the current standings:

Junior Women (W-L)
7-0 Scotland
5-2 Japan
4-3 Denmark, Russia
3-3 Czech Republic
3-4 Switzerland, USA
2-4 Sweden
2-5 Canada
1-6 Norway

Great to see Thomas Muirhead and Kyle Smith (above) enjoying themselves out on the ice – like Team Fleming, they also sit on top of the standings and are looking good despite suffering a solitary defeat against Russia on Monday.

They had no games today (Tuesday) but are on first thing tomorrow morning. The final group game involving Scotland that is being shown live is the junior women’s game tomorrow morning at 10 against Switzerland. You can watch it here. Don’t forget all the event scores, reports and pictures can be found here on the official website.

Junior Men (W-L)
5-1 Scotland
5-2 Canada, Norway, Russia, Sweden
3-4 Italy, USA
